Dementia Education, Care and Training (DETA)

The state of Alabama passed a law in 2021. This law allows the Alabama Department of Public Health to give information and help to people who have Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, or related diseases. They can help these people, their families, and the public.

On September 12, 2022, Dr. Harris signed a new memo saying that the State Board of Health Rules approved a training series called "CMS Hand in Hand: A Training Series for Nursing Homes," offered through the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. A person should be able to register, take the course, and print out a certification upon completion.

If someone in Alabama wants to learn more about Alzheimer's disease or how to take care of someone with this disease, there are some good resources available. Some of these resources may have a fee for the training. The Alzheimer's Association Education Center and Dementia Training/Memory Care are two places to get more information.
