Safe Routes to School
The purpose of the ADPH Safe Routes to School Program is to enable and encourage children in grades K-8, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school; to make walking and bicycling to school safer and more appealing; and to facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects that will improve highway safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of schools. Sexual Assault/Rape Prevention
The Rape Prevention and Education Program supports the Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) and its 15 member rape crisis centers in its efforts to provide educational programs addressing violence against women. The programs include 24-hour hotlines and educational activities in schools, organizations and communities The Division will also be working with organizations across the state to develop a statewide plan to reduce violence against women.
The Violence Against Women Program works with the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) and the Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) to end violence against women. A statewide Violence Against Women Prevention Plan for Alabama has been developed and is available. Also, a statewide Violence Resource Manual is available.
