Training Modules

Building a Healthy Start is not intended to be a comprehensive curriculum for caring for infants and toddlers in early childhood settings. Each module addresses a specific issue and focuses on information specific to the care of infants and toddlers related to that issue. After completion of each module, caregivers of infants and toddlers will receive a certificate for one clock hour of training in the area of health, safety, and universal precautions, in accordance with the Minimum Standards for Day Care Centers and Nighttime Centers and the Minimum Standards for Family Day Care Homes, Family Nighttime Homes, Group Day Care Homes, and Group Nighttime Homes as prescribed by the State of Alabama, Department of Human Resources.

• Module 1: Feeding Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings
  Published in 2014
  This module focuses on promoting breastfeeding, family style dining, and good nutrition for infants and toddlers in child care.

• Module 2: Promoting Physical Activity for Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings
  Published in 2014
  This module provides a developmental approach to promoting physical activity and optimal physical development for infants and toddlers in child care.

• Module 3: Protecting Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings from Disaster
  Published in January 2015
  This module addresses disaster preparedness issues specifically related to infants and toddlers in child care.

• Module 4: Creating a Healthy Environment for Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings
  Published in April 2015
  This module addresses environmental health concerns in child care that are specific to the care of infants and toddlers.

• Module 5: Promoting Optimal Social Emotional Development of Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings
  Coming in 2016
  This module will take a developmental approach to fostering the optimal social emotional development of infants and toddlers in child care.

• Module 6: Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect of Infants and Toddlers in Early Childhood Settings
  Coming in 2016
  This module will focus on strategies to recognize, appropriately address, and prevent abuse and neglect of infants and toddlers who participate in child care.
